  • New American Initiative
  • Citizenship Education

    While many immigrants and refugees would like to become American citizens and participate fully in the American way of life, they are often met with obstacles to overcome due to their language proficiency. MWRC helps individuals with low English proficiency and other challenges, while assisting with the attaining of U.S. Citizenship. The Citizenship program stresses that becoming U.S. citizens is only the first step in the process and includes becoming informed voters and active community members. Read more
  • Job Training Economic Development (JTED)
  • The JTED provides counseling and placement services to those seeking work

    • The JTED Program helps with interview techniques, employment counseling and job placement, and its Year-Round Employment Services address the particular needs of Immigrant women. Read more
  • Outreach and Interpretation (O&I)/Women Infant and Children (WIC)
  • MWRC staff work with the Illinois Department of Human Services to break down language and cultural barriers and help clients identify and access benefits that are available to them through local, state and federal programs.   • Y-CARE & Youth Empowerment Services (YES)

  • Adult Education
  • Our goal is to provide low-income immigrant women the educational services they need to flourish in an English-speaking environment. To do this, we offer the following activities:
    • ESL for adults
    • Communication Building Activities (CBA)
    • Computer Classes
    • Children Drop-in Center
    MWRC offers English as a Second Language (ESL) classes to low-income adult immigrants living on Chicago's North Side. Our four day English classes are for Beginning and Intermediate-level students. We also offer classes in Basic and Intermediate Computer Skills courses which include accessing the internet, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel. Read more
  • 2009 Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) Cooling Program
  • Muslim women Resource Center is contracted agency with CEDA to assist qualified low income families in Chicago and vicinity area apply for the Low Income Energy Assistance Program. In order to better coordinate the application process, families with:
    • Elderly (aged 60 or over)
    • Disabled members,
    • Children less than 36 months old or
    • Members with medical needs (need Proof medical Certificate) can come to register.
